Every word of God is pure;
He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him.
Proverbs 30:5
One area of preaching that will get me extremely hot under the collar is the inaccurate quoting of the tithing requirement of the Old Testament, and that in a New Testament church. In every other area, New Testament churches preach the doctrine of Grace. Ask any New Testament preacher if we are under the Law or Grace and they'll certainly tell you Grace, as it should be. However, these same men will eventually preach on the subject of tithing - an issue with no reference in the New Testament after the crucifixion except for instruction about Old Testament matters. The other times it's mentioned in the New Testament is when Jesus spoke in a negative context to the Pharisees of His day about their attitude for giving. Remember that our Lord's entire earthly ministry was under the Old Testament economy until the New Covenant was established the night before His crucifixion. Other than these references by Jesus, tithing is only mentioned in the book of Hebrews, and merely to explain the Old Testament system. Despite this fact, every preacher I've ever heard preach on the subject reverts from Grace to the Law.

If you are a pastor and you think you are aggrandizing yourself when you wear clericals, you’ll be disappointed. The congregation quickly gets used to the clericals and they see them as badges of service, not honor. Clericals put you in the same functional category as bellhops, waiters, police officers, airline pilots, and so on. We do not dress to please ourselves, or anyone else for that matter; our manner of dress facilitates our service. It makes our function obvious to strangers. It makes our duties inescapable, and it constrains our personal conduct, because we can’t disappear into the crowd when we are wearing clericals. Clericals mean that visitors don’t have to ask, “Where is the pastor?” They know just by looking.

I posted this video because when I was growing up, Sesame Street was my favorite show and my daughter Hailee Giles (www.haileegiles.com) loves Elmo. Just remember, with Jesus Christ, nothing will bring you down...continue to trust God and praise His Holy name.

The idea of “selling yourself” essentially means “to convince others of your value”. It’s usually a concept referred to when trying to get something – like a new job or a promotion. A lot people have a hard time selling themselves because they feel like it’s arrogant. People are often taught that self-promotion is vain or bigheaded. Truth be told, it’s a necessary part of business. It’s your responsibility to make others sit up and notice your work. You are your own biggest supporter. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging your talents. In fact, it’s a very wise and necessary career move.
So, how do you do it? How do you sell yourself effectively?

Ministries have the great privilege of championing world-changing and life-saving messages. Chances are good that your ministry’s story is worth hearing. Unfortunately, being “worth hearing” does not necessarily guarantee an audience.

“You will very likely run up against a series of circumstances that will, for a time, almost have you convinced you are actually going backwards; but, persistence is the key. Continue to hold the picture of personal prosperity and understand that what is happening to you, is what must happen, to prepare you to receive the good you desire.”
Bob Proctor in ‘You Were Born Rich’

In the book ‘Think and Grow Rich’ Napoleon Hill first used the term and defines what it is: “Coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”
Now there are Masterminds going on all the time and I bet that you are a part of one and you don’t even know it. Your church is a sort of mastermind for the benefit of all who are members there and their salvation, your job is a mastermind involved in providing a service and earning money for someone or some corporation, our government, a marriage, our families, any corporation, team, etc. are all masterminds.

Strong churches realize the value of communication. This includes communication between staff, members, volunteer leaders, attendees, and future visitors. As good stewards of the annual budget, many ministries look carefully at how they are spending their money in categories such as IT, marketing/communications, advertising, and even printing and postage.
